Then, assuming we don't get bogged down by all the lovely puds, we are planning to go to the V&A Friday Late

Victoria and Albert Museum

This months theme is Retro Hollywood Glamour - this is how the website describes it -

This August, bask in 1950s Hollywood glamour with the likes of Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe and Marlon Brando. With film screenings, performances by Fitzrovia Radio Hour and an Alfred Hitchcock quiz, travel back in time to the age of Technicolor

There are numerous workshops being held, screenings of 1950s Hollywood trailers, a film quiz as well as tours of the Grace Kelly Exhibition. I've heard that this worth seeing, so I am hoping we are there in time to get on one of the tours.

So, the outfit has been picked, table reserved and positive thoughts are being sent out to ensure that the wind and rain ease off whilst I am out!

Maybe some of you will be there?  If you spot me, come over and say Hi!

Welcome to Foxy Coxy Events blog

Hey!
Welcome to my blog!! The first post.

Not only I am in the middle of moving flats and interviewing for a new job at the same time - I decided to start a blog!
Such is my life, never a dull or quiet moment.
On that note, I would like to apologise now for the lack of pictures in the blog initially (I can't remember where I packed my camera, but I do know I need to buy new batteries for it!). What pictures I do include will be uploaded from my Blackberry, which doesn't have the best camera, but it will have to do for now or 'borrowed' from the 'tinternet

So, my first blog...... what to do?  I wasn't sure and had considered many things until I was on my lunch break last week and I spotted a stall in Old Spitalfields Market which had some vintage magazines on the corner of the stall. (I'm currently working between Liverpool Street and Brick Lane).
I didn't have time to stop and look properly as I was on the milk run (tea is a very important part of the day in the office), but I made a mental note of the stall and hoped that the stall would be back the next day.

So, it took a while to find the stall the next day, but as Thursday is 'Vintage day' in the market, the stall was there.  Yippee!!  It turns out the magazines I had seen were 'The national film and entertainment weekly' - Picturegoer.

Research tells me that Picturegoer was a UK based magazine published between 1913 and 1960. To begin with the focus was on films and performers of the time, evolving from movie reviews during the silent film era to a weekly listings guide of the films showing in the UK cinemas as the 'talkies' became popular. Further development saw it become a bi-weekly movie magazine sold in the cinema kiosks with hundreds of top flight film stars gracing the cover.
After World War II, Picturegoer found itself competing with the magazines the film companies and cinemas started producing themselves.
During the 1950s Picturegoer adapted and became more sensational, featuring the popular cheesecake and beefcake style artwork and photographs.
Sadly the last issue of Picturegoer was published on 23 April 1960 after being merged with a pop music magazine. (further information and cover photos can be found at the Picturegoer Magazine Archive website)

Anyway, enough of the history lesson.  I leafed through the copies on sale, debating which to treat myself to, when one caught my eye.  I was sure I had seen the cover photo somewhere recently, but I couldn't place it.
Even with this niggling in my mind, it was my favourite so I brought it!  It didn't cost much more than the monthly glossy magazines available now, but to me, it's worth so much more - this is a magazine I won't throw away after reading and to be honest, I find the articles more relevant and not all that different!

It wasn't until the weekend that I realised where I had seen the cover photo before. I was packing up some of my stuff and came across the Dreamboats and Petticoats magazine I had brought on a whim a couple of weeks ago!  (I'm not ashamed to admit that I have all of the Dreamboat and Petticoats albums)

Flicking through again, I came across this montage page
There in the bottom right hand corner was the Picturegoer magazine I had purchased a few days before!
